With your support, our goal is to open doors Fall 2024.
"There are many benefits to work and leisure for adults with developmental disabilities. Both work and leisure contribute to the overall quality of life for individuals with and without disabilities. Work allows individuals to hone in on personal skills as well as create or expand upon the autonomy of the individual. The work environment in itself can be a platform to build interpersonal relationships upon peer relatedness and connection. Work can also promote mastery where individuals set attainable goals that they can see to fruition. This can promote intrinsic motivation and self- efficacy. Leisure, in essence, is there to pick up "the slack." According to the Compensation Theory, leisure fills the areas in a person's life that have been missed by work. Leisure is healthy structured free- time that is made up of the personal interests of the individual. Our mission with REC HOUSE is to create a safe environment for adults with developmental disabilities to work, socialize, and recreate. REC HOUSE will increase employment opportunities but also serve as grounds for community gatherings to promote inclusion in the greater Milwaukee Area. Families with children who have developmental disabilities will have the opportunity to take part in inclusive community programming. REC HOUSE will be open to third party medical providers so they may continue to work with children and adult clients on treatment or community - related goals within a natural setting. But all said and done, we hope our game room and cafe can contribute to the social, cognitive, physical, spiritual, and social domains of each individual whether you are one of our cherished employees or forever grateful customers.
We want to thank you in advance for your support in our mission. "
