Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation Therapy (used interchangeably) is a form of therapy where the CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) utilizes leisure and recreation as a modality during each session. This can include, but is not limited to; Sports, Games, Yoga, Theatre, Horticulture, Adventure Therapy, Music, Art, Crafts, STEM, Journaling, Cooking, Community outings, Wellness, Fitness, and Leisure Education. Areas of focus could include Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, Social skills, Interpersonal Effectiveness within Conflict Resolution, Mindfulness, Intrinsic Motivation & Self- Efficacy, Skill Acquisition (skill identification and building) to promote Autonomy (Independence), Community Integration, Safety Awareness, Coping skill identification and application, Gross and Fine motor, Leisure Education, and More.

Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Developmental Disabilities, Attention Deficit- Hyperactivity Disorder, Depression, and Anxiety.
Licensed providers through the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation (NCTRS) utilize what is called the A.P.I.E(D) process; Assessment, Planning, Intervention, Evaluation, and Documentation. We take pride in transparency. Please see private fees listed below with explanation.
This is an onsite or in-home Recreation Therapy Assessment. Option for Virtual. An assessment identifies the needs and strengths of a client. It serves to avoid any contraindications, to ensure appropriate and client- centered treatment plans that address the individual's spiritual, cognitive, physical, emotional, and social domains.
This is an onsite or in-home Recreation Therapy Session. Option for Virtual. Sessions are facilitated after Assessment and careful Planning which involves input from both the client and/or client's guardian.
A great option for adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities. Includes transportation to/from in addition to the 90 minute session out in our Boulder community. For Example; Day of kayaking, hiking or another community outing to work on targeted area of growth identified during the Assessment. This could include different leisure interests or skill building to promote Autonomy within the client's specific schedule i.e Grocery shopping, Library visit, Events, College courses, etc.
